Manchester City yet to make an approach for Arsenal superstar
Manchester City still want to sign Alexis Sanchez this summer but are yet to make an approach for the Arsenal star, reports Sky Sports.
Reports had emerged over the weekend suggesting Pep Guardiola’s side were on the verge of completing a deal to sign Sanchez, who will only have 12 months remaining on his existing deal this summer.
The Chile international has been heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal but Arsene Wenger has already said he would rather let the forward leave the club for free next summer than sell him to one of their direct rivals.
However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal would actually turn down offers in excess of £30m and let him leave for nothing, while Bayern Munich remain strong favourites to secure his services with the Bundesliga champions reportedly ready to offer Sanchez £350,000-a-week wages to join.
Wenger’s side have been in contract talks with Sanchez all season but have been unable to get the 28-year-old to pledge his long-term future to the club and City are still hopeful of being able to conclude a deal before the start of next season.
Since joining Arsenal from Barcelona in the summer of 2014, Sanchez has scored or assisted 75 goals in 103 Premier League appearances (53 goals, 22 assists). Furthermore, only Eden Hazard has won more WhoScored Man of the Match awards (28) in that time than Sanchez (24).
