Bayern Munich’s hierarchy will meet on Thursday afternoon to discuss Carlo Ancelotti’s future as head coach as the Italian moves closer to being sacked, reports SportBILD.
Ancelotti has underwhelmed massively since replacing Pep Guardiola as Bayern boss over 12 months ago and he is now on the brink of a humiliating sack following the club’s 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Bayern appointed Ancelotti in a bid to move away from Guardiola’s intense management style but the outcome has been nothing short of disastrous for the Bavarian giants.
Ancelotti led Bayern to the Bundesliga last season but they failed to make the DFB Pokal final and were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
The Italian was brought in to take Bayern back to the summit of European football, the one thing Guardiola failed to do during his time at the club, but they have only regressed.
Bayern now face an uphill task to finish top of their group after losing to PSG and there are now suggestions assistant coach Willy Sagnol could take over from Ancelotti until the end of the season, when Hoffenheim head coach Julian Nagelsmann is expected to take over on a permanent basis.
Arjen Robben was surprisingly dropped from the team against PSG and after the game refused to give his support to underfire manager Ancelotti, who will learn his fate later this afternoon.
Bayern are already three points adrift of league leaders Borussia Dortmund after drawing one and losing one of their opening six league matches.
