Former Manchester United striker out for up to seven months

Celta Vigo have confirmed Giuseppe Rossi will be sidelined for up to seven months after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Rossi, who joined Celta on an initial season-long loan deal from Italian side Fiorentina, only lasted 35 minutes of Celta’s 2-0 home defeat to Eibar on Sunday before coming off with a knee injury.

The 30-year-old’s career has been plagued with a series of long-term injuries and Celta have now confirmed the former Manchester United striker will require surgery before spending the next six months on the mend.

“Medical tests have revealed Giuseppe Rossi has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“The player will need to undergo surgery and will be out of action for a minimum of six months. Celta wish Rossi a speedy recovery.”

Rossi had recently become a hero for Celta after netting a hat-trick in 67 minutes of their 3-1 win over Las Palmas before succumbing to an injury that will now rule him out for most of 2017 just two appearances later.

In fact, his hat-trick at the start of April made up three of the four league goals he managed in 18 appearances for Celta this season.
