Liverpool looking to swoop in and sign Arsenal target

Liverpool have made an inquiry to sign Arsenal target and Monaco star Thomas Lemar for a club-record £55m, reports the Daily Telegraph.

The Gunners have been monitoring the France international for much of the summer, but have been frustrated in their efforts to convince Monaco into selling the youngster.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger recently admitted defeat in his quest to lure the 21-year-old, who was thought to be keen on a move to the Emirates, to England.

Ligue 1 champions Monaco are not prepared to sell Lemar this summer having already sold Tiemoue Bakayoko, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy, while Kylian Mbappe looks set to depart before the close of the transfer window.

Liverpool, though, are prepared to chance their luck to sign Lemar and are hoping to push the deal over the line before Thursday’s deadline.

It’s thought that any deal for Lemar is not linked to the future of Philippe Coutinho, who has been courted for much of the summer by Barcelona, with the Blaugrana believed to be readying one final offer for the Brazilian.

Lemar has two assists this season after four appearances and has impressed to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.67 in Ligue 1.
