Pochettino signs new Tottenham deal

Tottenham have announced Mauricio Pochettino has put pen to paper on a new five-year contract running until 2023.

Pochettino is widely regarded as one of the best young managers in Europe and has been linked with several high profile jobs this season.

Chelsea expressed an interest in the last few weeks, while Real Madrid have also been monitoring his progress at Tottenham.

However, Pochettino has now signed a bumper new deal with Tottenham to provide the north London outfit with a huge boost.

“I am honoured to have signed a new long-term contract as we approach one of the most significant periods in the club’s history and be the manager that will lead this team into our new world-class stadium” Pochettino told the club’s official website.

“This is just one of the factors that makes this one of the most exciting jobs in world football and we are already making plans to ensure we continue to build on the great work that everyone has contributed to over the past four years.

“Daniel and I have spoken at length about our aspirations for this football club. We both share the same philosophies to achieve long-term, sustainable success.

“This is a special club – we always strive to be creative in the way we work both on and off the pitch and will continue to stick to our principles in order to achieve the success this club deserves.”

Pochettino raised doubts about his future at Tottenham at the end of the season to put potential suitors on red alert.

However, now the Argentine has committed his long-term future, suggesting funds will be available to strengthen his squad this summer.

Tottenham finished 23 points adrift of champions Manchester City this season and will surely struggle to bridge that gap unless there is significant investment.

The north London outfit actually finished nine points worse off this season than the 2016/17 campaign, but much of that can be attributed to the fact they played their home matches at Wembley.
