Crystal Palace aren’t interested in selling Andros Townsend unless they recoup their £13m summer signing, reports The Daily Mirror.
Townsend joined Palace from Newcastle at the start of the season but has underwhelmed at Selhurst Park and is now wanted back by his former club.
Rafa Benitez is determined to strengthen his squad before Tuesday’s deadline but would prefer to bring Townsend back to St. James’ Park on loan with a view to making the switch permanent if they secure promotion back to the Premier League.
However, Sam Allardyce’s side are interested in letting the England international depart for nothing leaving them unable to find a replacement to help bolster their chances of survival for the remainder of the season.
Palace have expressed an interest in Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba this month and there is a feeling that a deal could be part in which both players would go in opposite directions, with Newcastle also paying a small sum of money.
Despite falling out of favour in recent games, only four players have had more shots from outside the box than Townsend in the Premier League this season (36).
