West Ham target signs new deal

Villarreal have announced Cedric Bakambu has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal keeping him at the Spanish side until June 2022.

Bakambu has spent the last two seasons with the Yellow Submarines after joining from Turkish side Bursaspor and has established himself as the club’s main goalscorer in that time.

West Ham reportedly failed with a €25m (£22m) offer for the Congo international this summer and Slaven Bilic’s side will have to turn their attentions away for good following news Bakambu has pledged his long-term future to the club.

Injury problems restricted the 26-year-old to 17 league starts last season but the striker still managed to chip in with 11 goals and help Villarreal to a fifth-place finish in La Liga.

Furthermore, of the 30 players that have scored at least 15 goals in the last two La Liga campaigns, only Alvaro Morata (27.3%) and Luis Suarez (26.7%) have a better conversion rate than Bakambu (23.5%).
