Manchester City want quick decision from top target Rodrigo

Manchester City have warned Rodrigo they will move on to other targets if he does not make a quick decision on his Atletico Madrid future, claims the London Evening Standard.

Pep Guardiola wants to sign Fernandinho’s long-term replacement this summer and has earmarked Rodrigo as his top transfer target.

The Spain international, who has been tipped as the heir to Sergio Busquets’ throne for the national team, has asked for time in order to consider his future at Atletico.

City are reportedly willing to match Rodrigo’s £62.2m release clause and are just waiting for the greenlight from the player before firming up their interest in the 22-year-old.

While Rodrigo has asked for patience, Guardiola wants to sign a defensive midfielder as soon as possible and is prepared to pull the plug on City’s interest in the Atletico starlet.

City are also interested in Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and Real Madrid starlet Marcos Llorente, though face competition from Tottenham for the former.

Only Antoine Griezmann (7.29) garnered a better WhoScored rating (5+ appearances) than Rodrigo (7.24) of all Atletico players in La Liga last season.

Furthermore, Rodrigo completed 91.1% of his passes in the league and scored three goals.
