United ponder shock swap deal involving Martial

Manchester United are considering swapping Anthony Martial for Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani, according to Tuttomercatoweb.com, via Goal.com.

Martial, 20, has been one of very bright spots for Louis van Gaal this season and it’s daunting to imagine where United would be had they not signed the France international in the summer.

The France international’s arrival was ridiculed after United splashed out in excess of £36m on a young forward that had only made more than a dozen first-team appearances for Monaco.

However, he has immediately become a fan favourite at Old Trafford and it would seem a surprise if United were already considering trading him in for 29-year-old Cavani, when they have the finance to buy the Uruguayan international outright.

Cavani, 29, has dropped down the pecking order at PSG this summer after falling out with Laurent Blanc and a number of the players and looks set to leave the Parc des Princes this summer.

Although, it is interesting to note that United’s win ratio in the league is astonishingly higher without Martial in the starting XI, albeit from a smaller sample. United have won just 36.4% of the 22 matches in which Martial has started, compared to a win ratio of 71.4% of the seven matches they have played without Martial in the XI.
