Zidane goes on the charm offensive to lure Pogba away from Manchester United
Zinedine Zidane has suggested Real Madrid would welcome Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba with open arms if a transfer materialises in the future.
Madrid are planning a squad overhaul this summer and Pogba has emerged as one of several Premier League stars the club are targeting.
Pogba was heavily linked with a move to Madrid before he returned to United in 2016 and now Zidane is determined to finally land the 2018 World Cup winner.
The 26-year-old infuriated United fans during the international break after flirting with the idea of joining Madrid and levelling the Spanish side his dream club.
United have no interest in selling Pogba but that has done nothing to deter Zidane from going on the charm offensive ahead of Sunday’s league match against SD Huesca.
“I like Pogba a lot, it’s nothing new. I know him personally,” AS quote Zidane as saying in his pre-match press conference. “He’s a different kind of player, he brings so much and there are few players who bring as much as he does.
“He’s a midfielder who knows how to defend and how to attack. He knows how to do everything on the pitch. He’s not part of my squad, he plays at United and what he’s said about Real Madrid and his desire to come here if one day he gets the chance when he wants to leave United…
“And if when he finishes his experience at United he wants to come here why shouldn’t he come to Real Madrid.”
Despite his woes with Jose Mourinho earlier in the campaign, Pogba has generally been phenomenal for United this season.
Pogba has played a direct hand in 20 league goals this season and they remarkably have earned United an extra 19 points.
