Chelsea refuses to meet £65m for Belgian

Chelsea will not meet Everton’s £65m asking price for former striker Romelu Lukaku, according to the London Evening Standard.

The Blues sold Lukaku to Everton for £28m two years ago but are want to bring the Belgium international back to Stamford Bridge to bolster their offensive options ahead of the new campaign.

Lukaku, 23, is widely expected to leave Goodison Park this summer following their disastrous campaign and while Chelsea appreciate he has developed considerably since leaving, they do not believe his value has more than doubled and will not meet their demands.

The stalemate in negotiations leaves the deal at a crossroads and it’s unsure whether Chelsea will persist or move onto an alternative option to help ease the goalscoring burden on Diego Costa next season.

Only Sergio Aguero (79) has scored more goals in the Premier League than Lukaku (60) since August 2012.
