Arsenal sign Celtic defender Tierney

Arsenal have announced the arrival of Celtic defender Kieran Tierney on a five-year deal running until the summer of 2024.

The Gunners have pursed Tierney’s signature for months and have finally got a deal over the line with their third bid of the summer for the Scotland international.

Tierney passed his medical with Arsenal on deadline day despite missing the start of the season with Celtic through injury.

Celtic have successfully claimed a Scottish transfer record fee for Tierney after managing to command £25m for the 22-year-old.

Arsenal are long-term admirers of Tierney, who has previously been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

Unai Emery’s side have made a double defensive swoop on deadline day after also agreeing a £8m deal with Chelsea to sign veteran centre-back David Luiz.

Of players that made at least three appearances for Celtic in the Europa League last season, only one player garnered a higher WhoScored rating than Tierney (7.13).
