Chinese Super League club confirm talks with Manchester United outcast
Chinese Super League outfit Tianjin Quanjin have confirmed talks were held with Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney but they are not interested in signing him before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Rooney, 31, has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this season after falling down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho this season and the United manager stopped short of ruling out his potential departure before the season even finishes on Tuesday.
There is big interest from China to secure the services of United and England’s all-time record goalscorer and Rooney is reportedly now open to cashing in on the riches China has to offer, although one potential suitor has ruled themselves out of the running.
“We did make an approach for Rooney, but it was just a chat because he simply doesn’t suit our style of play,” Tianjin manager Fabio Cannavaro told Tianjin TV, via The Daily Mirror.
Rooney’s current £300,000-a-week contract isn’t due to expire until 2019 but the United captain could reportedly earn up to as much as £750,000-a-week in China.
The veteran striker, who overtook Sir Bobby Charlton’s record as United’s all-time record goalscorer in January, has only started three of United’s 12 matches in 2017 and was not included in the squad that is due to face Saint-Etienne on Wednesday.
