Alexis Sanchez is prepared to see out the final year of his contract at Arsenal if they match his ambition in the transfer window this summer before being free to join Chelsea for nothing at the end of next season, claims The Daily Mirror.
The Chile international will only have 12 months left to run on his existing deal with Arsenal at the end of the summer and has been unwilling to commit his long-term future to the club with contract talks shelved until the end of the current campaign.
Sanchez, 28, has since emerged as Chelsea’s top transfer target for the summer but Antonio Conte’s side may now have to wait until the end of next season before getting their man, although it would be a significantly cheaper deal with Arsenal reportedly unwilling to sell Sanchez this summer for anything south of £50m.
Arsene Wenger’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season but he is poised to sign a new deal and player power is likely to force the Arsenal manager to spend big in the summer, which would convince Sanchez to stay at the club despite the fact they may not have Champions League football next year.
No player has scored or assisted more goals in the Premier League this season than Sanchez (27), while only Eden Hazard (7.91) has a higher WhoScored rating in the Premier League than Sanchez (7.81).
