Everton boss Ancelotti wants audacious reunion with Real Madrid outcast

Carlo Ancelotti is desperate to bring Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez to Everton when the transfer window opens, claims Marca.

Rodriguez is free to leave Madrid this summer after falling completely out of favour at the club in recent years.

Ancelotti was desperate to reunite with Rodriguez last summer while he was still Napoli manager but the two clubs could not agree terms.

The Colombia international was eventually forced to stay at Madrid but has been limited to just four starts and three substitute appearances in LaLiga this season.

Rodriguez will be one of the first players Madrid look to move on in the summer and Wolves and Everton have already emerged as potential destinations for the midfielder.

Wolves are in the race due to their connection with super agent Jorge Mendes, who also acts on behalf of Rodriguez.

However, it has now emerged the 28-year-old is more receptive to the idea of joining Everton to continue alongisde former manager Ancelotti.

Rodriguez recently spent two years on loan at Bayern Munich in order to reunite with the Italian head coach, though was not a first-team regular during his time in Germany.

The Colombian only started 32 of a possible 68 league games during his time at Bayern and made a further 11 appearances from the bench.

Despite a relatively lack of game time, Rodriguez still managed a direct hand in 28 goals in that time (14 goals, 14 assists).

Not only that, but across the 2017/18 and 2018/19 Bundesliga campaigns, Rodriguez managed the fewest minutes (10+ starts) per key pass in the division (1 every 24.1 minutes of action).
