Milan Skriniar has given Inter a huge boost after telling Barcelona he is not interested in joining.
The Slovakia international has made a sublime start to his Inter career this season and his performances have even caught the attention of Barcelona.
Ernesto Valverde is desperate to sign a new centre-back, but will have to consider alternatives now Skriniar has rejected a potential switch.
“I am not interested in Barcelona,” Skriniar told Mediaset Premium, via Football Espana. “I play for Inter and my objective is to play for Inter. I want to get them to win.
“Now we have to forget what happened on international duty and focus only on our clubs. I am very happy with my season so far and must continue like this.”
Leonardo Bonucci’s shock move to Milan was the biggest transfer story of the window in Italy over the summer, but he has been upstaged by the performances of Skriniar at the heart of Inter’s defence.
In fact, the 22-year-old currently occupies a spot in the WhoScored Team of the Season in Serie A (7.27), while only Francesco Acerbi (58) has won possession in the defensive third more times than Skriniar (56).
