United left disappointed with top target set for new deal

Gareth Bale looks set to sign a new deal at Real Madrid in the coming weeks as he ties down his long-term future to the club, reports the Sunday Express.

The La Liga giants have been extending the deals of their current playing staff with a transfer ban looming, with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric among those prolonging their stays in the Spanish capital.

Bale looks set to follow suit, with a £350,000 a week contract until 2022 on the table for the Wales star.

The move will have disappointed Manchester United, who had been keen on making a bumper move for Bale at the end of the season.

However, with a £500m release clause set to be inserted into the 27-year-old’s new deal, any potential transfer now looks dead in the water.

Once Bale’s deal is confirmed, Cristiano Ronaldo is the next in line to extend his stay at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu as Real Madrid tie down their key performers.
