Real Madrid are expected to confirm they have sacked Rafa Benitez after just seven months at the helm and have placed club legend Zinedine Zidane in interim control until the end of the season, reports to Marca.
Los Blancos are currently four points off league leaders Atletico Madrid but are the league’s highest goalscorers (47).
However, there has been growing uncertainty regarding his position ever since he took office and there have already been murmurs several top ranking players have fallen out with the Spaniard.
Florentino Perez called an urgent meeting to discuss Benitez’s future on Monday following their 2-2 draw with Valencia on Sunday evening and the decision has now reportedly been made to relive him off his duties, with Zidane being promoted from his role as Madrid Castilla manager.
Benitez leaves the club with a win ratio of 68% but Madrid were left incredibly embarrassed when they were chucked out of the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player against Cadiz in December.
