Atletico Madrid have announced Fernando Torres has signed a one-year deal with the club.
Torres became a free agent at the start of the month after his contract expired with AC Milan and his 18-month loan with Atletico came to an end.
However, Atletico confirmed last month they were intending to extend their former captain’s stay with the club and he has now put pen to paper on another 12 months with his boyhood club.
“I’m delighted to continue at home, the only place where I ever wanted to be, and it has finally come true,” Torres told Atletico’s official website.
“Happy to be here, I’ve never had doubts about where I wanted to be during all this process in which we didn’t know what was going to happen and, in the end, what matters is that I have achieved what I was waiting for.”
Only five players in La Liga required fewer minutes per goal in 2016 than Torres last season (104 mins) of those that made at least 10 appearances.
