Chelsea striker hints at Stamford Bridge exit

Olivier Giroud has conceded he may have to leave Chelsea at the end of the season following Gonzalo Higuain’s arrival.

Chelsea signed Higuain from Juventus last week and are in the process of finalising Alvaro Morata’s departure to Atletico Madrid.

Giroud has struggled for regular playing time since joining Chelsea over 12 months ago and Higuain’s arrival will only limit his playing time further.

Maurizio Sarri started Higuain over Giroud in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday and the 32-year-old admits he may have to re-evaluate his future at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

“If the club decides to get another striker, like Higuain, it will certainly darken my future at Chelsea,” Giroud told Canal ahead of the Argentine’s move to Chelsea, via The Daily Mail.

“I’ve never said ‘no’ to a return to France. Lyon and Marseille are two great clubs. My priority is to stay in the Premier League though.”

Giroud has made 18 appearances in the Premier League this season but only six of those have been starts.

Despite a lack of regular playing time, the 2018 World Cup winner has still played a direct hand in five league goals for the Blues (one goal, four assists).

Furthermore, only Eden Hazard (10) has registered more assists than Giroud in the Premier League for Chelsea this season.
