Tottenham eye surprise move for Watford man

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is eyeing a surprise move for Watford midfielder Will Hughes, reports The Mirror on Sunday.

The Hornets are facing a struggle to retain the services of their star players following their relegation, with Hughes among those facing a summer exit from Vicarage Road.

Watford value Hughes at £13m and Spurs are considering an approach for the 25-year-old as Mourinho rebuilds his midfield.

Spurs have been busy in the market having already secured the services of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty from Southampton, Burnley and Wolves, respectively, in the off season.

However, they need to balance the books before they can invest further this summer with the likes of Juan Foyth, Paulo Gazzaniga and Serge Aurier all available for transfer.

Hughes has impressed in the Premier League following his move to Watford in 2017 and started 27 league matches last season for the Hornets.

The former Derby youngster is able to cover a number of midfield roles and would boost Spurs' homegrown quota in both the Premier League and Europa League.
