Today's top streaks: Record at stake for top European club tonight

Sporting CP have the chance to set a new record in Europe's major leagues this season when they host Rio Ave in the late kick-off in Liga NOS.

The Portuguese powerhouse still have feint aspirations of securing the title but know that they must win tonight’s game to keep pressure on Porto and Benfica above them.

Jorge Jesus’ side could become only the second team all season in world football to keep eight consecutive clean sheets at home in the process - a record currently held by Romanian side CFR Cluj - last conceding a league goal at the Estadio Jose Alvalade way back in early November to Braga.

Elsewhere Barcelona are hoping to extend their record of the most league games unbeaten in the world this season, currently at 28, when they host Athletic Club.

The blaugrana aren’t, however, the only side to have not lost a league game this season, with German Regionalliga outfit Energie Cottbus also yet to taste defeat in their 23 matches, although their meeting with Hertha Berlin II today has been postponed.

In terms of consecutive wins though, it’s Paris Saint Germain that hold the lead at present - with eight in succession their longest winning streak all season in Ligue 1. They’ll hope to extend that at Nice today, but are still well shot of Manchester City’s record of 18 this season.

Meanwhile Cardiff were due to be aiming for an eighth victory in a row of their own, and three points that would move them a giant step closer to a Premier League return after Aston Villa and Fulham both dropped points yesterday. However, their trip to face Derby has also been postponed.
