Deeney not going to West Ham, says agent

The agent of Troy Deeney has quashed reports suggesting the Watford captain is poised to move to West Ham in January.

Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting West Ham were close to signing Deeney, who only signed a five-year deal in the summer.

The 28-year-old was linked with a move to Leicester at the start of the summer before penning a new deal, and his agent has rubbished suggestions he could make the switch to east London.

“I heard the rumour this morning; it’s not true, not even close,” he told the Watford Observer. “There’s no interest at the moment and Troy is just concentrating on playing for Watford and trying to get in the England squad.”

West Ham are desperate for a regular goalscorer having failed to land any of their main targets in the summer before eventually signing Simone Zaza on a season-long loan deal from Napoli.

Zaza has failed to make any impact on the Premier League and will reportedly be sent back to Napoli in January, while the Hammers cannot count on Andy Carroll to stay fit.

Since the start of last season Deeney has scored 31.4% of Watford’s Premier League goals (16).
