Paris Saint-Germain have announced captain Thiago Silva has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal keeping him at the club until 2020.
Silva’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the current season and there had been some uncertainty about his future at the club with a return to Serie A mooted.
PSG have, however, found a solution in talks with the player and have announced Silva has agreed to stay on for a further four years, securing his best remaining years.
“It’s an immense pleasure to extend my contract with Paris Saint-Germain,” Silva told the club’s official website.
“Here, I have found a marvellous club where I can thrive. I am very proud to be the captain of this team, which has won everything in France in the last two seasons and which has also earned respect from across Europe thanks to its performance in the Champions League.
“We still have some very big dreams to fulfil. I’m convinced that we’ll manage to do that and will continue to make our fans happy.”
Silva has been regarded as one of the best centre-backs in Europe since joining PSG from AC Milan in 2012 and has been a pillar of their recent success.
In the last four Ligue 1 campaigns only PSG teammates Thiago Motta (8948) and Marco Verratti (7278) has completed more passes than Silva (6620).
