London rivals to battle for Barcelona outcast

London rivals Tottenham and West Ham are to battle it out for the signing of Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes on deadline day, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Portugal international is widely expected to leave the La Liga side before the close of the transfer window, with Juventus also in the running to secure the services of former Valencia man.

Gomes’ time at Barcelona has been a disaster as he has struggled for form following his big money move to Camp Nou 12 months ago.

A host of teams have been tracking the 24-year-old this summer, with Spurs and West Ham rumoured to be at loggerheads in their respective bids to save Gomes from his torrid time in Barcelona.

West Ham are looking to add another midfielder to the ranks having missed out on William Carvalho, while Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking to bolster the squad’s ranks ahead of their return to the Champions League.

Barcelona are looking for a hefty loan fee in order to sanction his departure, but are willing to let Gomes depart for the season before the 11pm deadline in England, with the player not part of Ernesto Valverde's plans this season.
