Atletico Madrid reach €40m agreement for Serie A starlet

Atletico Madrid are poised to sign Sampdoria starlet Lucas Torreira after reaching a €40m (£35.2m) agreement with the Serie A side, reports Goal.

The 21-year-old has made a sublime start to the season and now Diego Simeone wants to add the Uruguayan to his squad in January along with Vitolo and Diego Costa.

Sampdoria, who are regarded as this season’s surprise package in Serie A, have done tremendous business in recent windows after acquiring the likes of Milan Skriniar and Patrik Schick for measly fees before selling them on for huge sums.

Marco Giampaolo’s side shelled out €1.5m (£1.3m) to sign Torreira from Pescara in 2015, but have reportedly agreed a stunning €40m fee with Atletico ahead of the January window.

Torreira has already scored more goals in 10 league appearances this season (2) than he managed in 35 games last year for Sampdoria, while the pint-sized midfielder has also been fouled more times than any other Serie A player this term (34).
