United goalkeeper nears Old Trafford exit

Victor Valdes is finally on the verge of putting an end to his tortuous spell at Manchester United with a loan switch to Belgian outfit Standard Liege nearing completion, claims Belgian newspaper Derniere Heure.

The former Barcelona goalkeeper has been ostracised by United manager Louis van Gaal following a disagreement with the United boss at the end of last season.

Valdes, 34, joined the Red Devils on a free transfer in January 2015 following his return to fitness from knee surgery the previous year.

It was anticipated that the former Spain international would take over the gloves from David de Gea, who was expected to move on to Real Madrid.

However, De Gea has remained at the club and Valdes has been made to stay away from the first-team after reportedly refusing to turn out for the club’s Under-21’s.

Valdes only has 106 minutes of playing time in the Premier League to his name over the last 12 months, in which time he conceded a Tyler Blackett own goal. His last appearance was against Hull in May.
