Milan confirm midfielder sidelined for at least five months

AC Milan have confirmed Riccardo Montolivo has undergone surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will be sidelined for at least five months.

Montolivo, 31, was stretchered off midway through the first half of Italy’s 1-1 draw with Spain on Thursday night following a heavy tackle with Spain captain Sergio Ramos.

The Milan skipper has a history for serious injuries having broken his leg while on international duty in 2014 and is now unlikely to play any part until the end of the season.
