West Ham target leads the way as Serie A returns

Carlos Bacca dedicated his hat trick on the opening weekend of the new Serie A campaign to AC Milan. The 28-year-old could have joined West Ham this summer but rejected their proposal to remain in San Siro. The Hammers have toiled in front of goal so far this season and news of Bacca scoring three in his first game of the season would only have made matters worse for Slaven Bilic, who is now without Andy Carroll and club record signing Andre Ayew for the foreseeable future.

The Colombia international is already leading the scoring charts in Serie A after scoring all of Milan’s goals in a 3-2 victory over Torino on Sunday afternoon, just hours before West Ham trudged past Bournemouth 1-0 in their competitive bow at the London Stadium. Bacca had five shots on the Torino goal, with four of those on target. He garnered a WhoScored.com rating of 8.94, which was only the second highest in the opening set of Serie A fixtures.

Instead, Mohamed Salah reserved the right of the weekend’s star man in Italy’s top tier. The former Chelsea flop secured an impressive rating of 9.34 after scoring once in Roma’s 4-0 thrashing of Udinese in the first game of the season. Not only that, but the pacey winger completed two dribbles and created four chances.
