Newcastle United have won their appeal against Fabricio Coloccini’s red card in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to neighbourhood rivals Sunderland.
Coloccini, 33, was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Steven Fletcher, which resulted in a penalty on the stroke of half-time.
However, the Argentina veteran is now free to face Stoke on Saturday after the Football Association overturned the decision made by referee Bobby Madley.
“An independent Regulatory Commission found that the match referee had made an obvious error in dismissing the Newcastle United defender for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity,” read an FA Statement.
