Atletico Madrid are the frontrunners to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette this summer and are in advanced negotiations with the relevant parties, reports L’Equipe, via Get French Football.
Diego Simeone’s side have already drafted a four or five-year deal for the Lyon striker and Atletico hope his arrival could convince Antoine Griezmann to remain at the club for at least one more season amid uncertainty over his future.
Lacazette is also being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League but the France international is reportedly prioritising a move to Spain to join Champions League semi-finalists Atletico.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has already conceded the club may be forced to cash in on their prized asset this summer, although they will not entertain any offers less than £50m having rejected less than that last summer.
Lacazette has been in tremendous form for Lyon this season, scoring 24 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit. The 25-year-old is also the third highest rated player in the division (7.49) and it’s no surprise that the club have faltered when they have not been able to call upon his services.
In fact, Lyon’s win ratio drops from 56% with Lacazette in the starting XI this season to just 44.4% when he has not started in Ligue 1.
