Paris Saint-Germain leapfrog Manchester United in race for striker

French giants Paris Saint-Germain have leapfrogged Premier League side Manchester United in the race to sign Andrea Belotti from Torino, reports Canal+ via talkSPORT.

United have made no secret of their desire to sign a new striker this summer and while on the cusp of securing a deal for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, they have still been heavily linked with a move for Belotti.

However, they look set to miss out on the 23-year-old frontman after PSG made their move to sign the Italian, though their opening gambit of £53m falls way below the £87m release clause in Belotti’s contract that applies to non-Italian teams.

The Italy international was in fine form for the Serie A outfit last season, netting 26 goals for the Turin side.

Their failure to qualify for Europe, though, means Torino are expected to sell the youngster this window and there is no shortage of suitors for Belotti.

AC Milan had also been credited with an interest in the free-scoring hitman, yet Torino are hoping to sell abroad to recoup a huge fee for the former Palermo ace.

PSG could yet up their offer for Belotti later in the transfer window, but United are facing the prospect of missing out on one of their attacking targets.
