Chilwell to push for Chelsea move after Champions League collapse

Leicester's chances of retaining Ben Chilwell's services has taken a huge blow after failing to qualify for the Champions League next season, claims The Sun.

Brendan Rodgers' side slipped to a 2-0 home defeat to Manchester United on the final day of the season and ended up four points adrift of the top four.

Chilwell has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea since the turn of the year after being earmarked as a top transfer target by Frank Lampard.

The Chelsea manager wants to sign a new left-back this summer after deeming both Marcos Alonso and Emerson surplus to requirements.

Leicester were confident qualifying for next season's Champions League would convince Chilwell to spend at least one more season at the club.

However, Chilwell is now expected to push for a move to Chelsea in a further boost for Lampard's side.

Chelsea are pushing ahead with a deal to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen and will then look at addressing their problems at the back.

Replacing Kepa in goal is another priority for Lampard, while Chelsea are also expected to step up their pursuit in Chilwell after next weekend's FA Cup final with Arsenal.

The 23-year-old missed Leicester's last five matches of the season through injury, in which time the Foxes only won one game.

Chilwell finished the campaign with three goals and as many assists from left-back across 27 league appearances.

In fact, Chilwell had only managed one goal in 72 Premier League appearances prior to the 2019/20 campaign.
