Barcelona have announced Rafinha will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his right knee on Friday.
The 24-year-old, who has previously suffered serious knee injuries in his career, will miss the next four months as he begins his rehabilitation.
Rafinha had been enjoying his most involved season in the Barcelona first-team this season and his absence is a real blow for Luis Enrique’s side as the Brazilian provides tactical flexibility.
Not only can the Barcelona No.12 play in advanced areas, then Rafinha can also play in central midfield and on the right of a 3-4-3 formation, which Barcelona have used more frequently this year.
While Barcelona heavily rely on Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez to score their goals, Rafinha is also handy in this area, scoring the joint fourth most goals in La Liga this season for Enrique’s side (6).
