Arsenal and Tottenham set for January scrap for Bundesliga ace

Arsenal and Tottenham will lock horns in the January transfer window for the sought after signature of Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, reports The Daily Mirror.

Goretzka’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the current campaign and the Germany international will be free to discuss pre-contractual agreements with foreign clubs in January.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but Arsenal and Tottenham are keen to sign the highly rated midfielder and will step up their pursuits in the New Year.

Schalke have not given up hope of Goretzka penning a new deal, but it looks increasingly likely that the German will move on at the end of the current campaign to join one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Goretzka has scored four goals in nine Bundesliga appearances this season, which is an impressive return for a central midfielder. However, only Andre Han (16) has been dribbled past more times than the Schalke No.8 (15) this term.
