Fulham announce return of Newcastle striker Mitrovic

Fulham have announced they have re-signed Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic on a five-year deal running until 2023.

Mitrovic spent the second half of last season on loan at Craven Cottage and played an integral part in Fulham’s promotion from the Championship.

The 23-year-old had no future at Newcastle under Rafa Benitez and has now completed a stunning move worth in excess of £20m to re-join Fulham on a permanent basis.

“I’m very glad and happy and proud to finally be here and officially become a Fulham player,” he told the club’s official website. “I’m happy to the moon and back.

“I have love for the fans. They’re amazing and I have a really good connection with them. This is a big club and last year we made history, we did big things, and I want to continue this.

“We want to keep making big things, and with all the fans behind us I think we can go far.”

Fulham have now spent more than £50m bolstering their squad ahead of their first Premier League campaign since 2014, making some impressive signings.

The Cottagers pulled off one of the coups of the summer by snaring Chelsea target Jean Seri from Nice to improve their midfield options and now have an out-and-out striker.

Mitrovic scored more goals than any other player during the second half of the Championship last term (12) and will be out to improve on a fairly unimpressive Premier League record.

The Serbia international missed several golden opportunities during the 2018 World Cup and only has 13 Premier League goals in 59 career appearances.
