Juventus refuse to pay Higuain release clause

Juventus director Giuseppe Morata has confirmed the club will not pay Gonzalo Higuain’s €94m (£78.5m) release clause this summer.

The Serie A champions have been heavily linked with a move for Higuain this month after it was suggested the Argentina international would not look to sign a new deal with Napoli.

Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has previously been very adamant that the club are not looking to sell Higuain and the only way a team can buy him is if they match his staggering release clause.

“Yes, there’s no negotiation for Higuain,” Marotta told Sport Mediaset, via Football Italia.

“De Laurentiis said we won’t pay the release clause? I’d say yes [we won’t], that’s how it is. I’d say yes, absolutely.”

Higuain finished last season having scored at least 17 more goals than any other player in Serie A (36).
