Kepa will take pay-cut to end Chelsea hell

Kepa Arrizabalaga is willing to take a pay-cut on his £150,000-a-week Chelsea contract in order to secure a summer move away, claims The Sun.

The Spain international has endured a nightmare campaign under Frank Lampard and was dropped for their final game of the campaign on Sunday.

Lampard lost patience in Kepa following his poor display in Chelsea's 5-3 defeat to champions Liverpool last week.

In truth, however, Lampard has not been keen on Chelsea's club-record signing all season and has made it clear to the club's hierarchy he wants a new goalkeeper for next season.

Kepa has got the message loud and clear and will even take a significant wage cut in order to seal a return to Spain.

Atletico Madrid have already ruled out a potential swap deal for Kepa involving current No.1 Jan Oblak, while neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid are on the market for new goalkeepers.

After paying £71.6m to sign Kepa from Athletic Club two years ago, Chelsea will be looking to recoup as much of their initialy outlay as possible but will struggle to command anywhere near that fee.

Kepa's reputation has plummeted over the last two years and transfer fees are set to take a huge hit this summer as a direct consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The 25-year-old finished the 2019/20 Premier League campaign as the lowest WhoScored rated goalkeeper in the division (6.36).

Moreover, of goalkeepers that made more than five appearances Kepa had the worst save success rate (53.9%).
