Neymar illness could delay Pedro move

Manchester United could be made to wait until the end of the month before wrapping up a deal to sign Pedro from Barcelona, according to Spanish paper AS.

The Spain international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer but any possible deal could be delayed until Neymar has recovered from illness.

Neymar is expected to miss the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla on Tuesday and both legs of the Spanish Super Cup after contracting mumps and Luis Enrique is likely to recall upon the services of Pedro to deputise in his absence.

Nevertheless, Barcelona will be powerless to stop Pedro’s departure if United meet his €30m (£21.2m) release clause.

Louis van Gaal’s side are in the market for a winger after the sale of Angel di Maria and are expected to step up their interest in Pedro before the end of the transfer window.

Pedro, 28, has largely played second fiddle to a glittering array of forward talent that has swept through the doors at the Nou Camp since his emergence in 2008. Since then, only Lionel Messi (257) has scored more goals than Pedro (58) for Barcelona in La Liga.
