Sergio Romero will consider his Manchester United future in January amid fears he could lose his No.1 spot in goal for Argentina at the 2018 World Cup, claims The Daily Mail.
The 30-year-old has been Argentina’s first choice goalkeeper for the best part of seven years and is on course to become just the sixth player in his country’s history to reach 100 caps.
However, Romero is concerned that a lack of playing time at United will cost him his place at the 2018 World Cup and he may have to evaluate his future next month as a result.
Romero has established himself as the best back up goalkeeper in the Premier League since the start of last season and would not be short of suitors in January.
However, his departure would leave Mourinho with a massive headache as he would need to sign a replacement.
The United boss has money to spend in January but it would be difficult to find someone as good as Romero to accept a reserve role behind David de Gea.
Romero has made 22 appearances in all competitions since the start of last season and kept an impressive tally of 14 clean sheets in that time. With that in mind, it could prove savvy business to invest heavily in Romero on Football INDEX. His share price is only £0.41 as it stands but would certainly increase with the chance of regular first-team football.
