Former Everton boss set for national team role

Former Southampton and Everton manager Ronald Koeman is set to be named new Netherlands head coach next week, according to Dutch publication De Telegraaf.

The 54-year-old has been out of work since his sacking as Everton manager back in October and was linked with a Premier League return after Stoke and Swansea relieved Mark Hughes and Paul Clement, respectively, of their duties.

However, it looks as though Koeman will be presented as the next Netherlands head coach next Friday.

The Oranje are without a head coach after Dick Advocaat stepped down as boss following the November international break, with meetings with Scotland and Romania his last in charge of the Dutch national team.

The Netherlands failed to qualify for the 2016 World Cup after finishing third behind France and Sweden in Group A and attention now turns to Euro 2018 qualification.

Koeman was previously linked with the Netherlands national team role prior to Advocaat’s appointment, but was focused on his job as Everton manager.
