According to The Mirror (via Diario Gol), Liverpool have made an approach to Real Madrid over the services of striker Karim Benzema.
The France international is still very much a regular in the Spanish champions’ starting XI, which was a key reason why the club were willing to cash in on Alvaro Morata.
However, reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is open to offers for the Frenchman, who is also not opposed to an exit from the club.
The 29-year-old started 23 of 29 league appearances last season but a modest return of just 11 goals was his lowest for Los Blancos since the 2012/13 campaign, when he played a significantly restricted role.
Liverpool’s apparent interest comes as a shock given the attacking options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, while long term admirers Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are also believed to be monitoring Benzema’s situation.
