Tottenham targeting Benfica midfielder

Tottenham are considering a move for Ljubomir Fejsa in a bid to improve their midfield options, reports the Sun.

The 28-year-old has won collected an impressive 10 championship medals in the last nine seasons with Partizan Belgrade, Olympiacos and Benfica, and Spurs are hoping his influence can help end the club’s 57-year wait for a domestic title.

Spurs are the only Premier League side yet to make a signing this summer, but could be about to end that wait for a new face with the arrival of Fejsa.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were linked with a move for Sporting star Adrien Silva, but having supposedly failed in a move for the Portuguese, have instead turned their attention to Fejsa, who made 25 starts as Benfica romped to the Liga NOS title.

The defending champions are hoping to retain Fejsa’s services, but he is out of contract in 12 months’ time and Benfica would rather cash in on him this summer than lose him on a free next year, which means he could be available on the cheap for Spurs.

His retention qualities are perhaps his strongest asset, with no player mustering a better pass success rate than Fejsa (90.5%) in Liga NOS last season.
