Barcelona target drops massive Liverpool hint

In demand Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is open to the possibility of a move to Liverpool to link up with international partner Virgil van Dijk, the defender has told Goal.com.

De Ligt is one of the most sought after talents on the continent as he continues to shine for Eredivise powerhouse Ajax.

The teenager played a key role in their Champions League progression at the expense of defending champions Real Madrid and his flying form in the Netherlands has seen him linked with moves to Barcelona, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

However, De Ligt has since discussed the possibility of moving to Liverpool to play alongside Van Dijk for both club and country.

"Virgil (van Dijk) is a player who has experience in the top leagues. Of course, you would want to learn from him. It’s very helpful playing alongside him in the Dutch team.

“It could happen (De Ligt joining him at Liverpool). He plays for Liverpool, a good club, but I’m not focused on them. I focus on Ajax and then I’ll see where I end up.”
