Bonucci snubs Manchester City again

Manchester City have seen another attempt to prise Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus fall flat on its face, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Pep Guardiola has courted Bonucci without success almost every season since becoming City head coach in 2016.

Despite the £40m arrival of Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake, City are still on the look out for another central defender this summer.

Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly has been heavily linked with a move to City but it has now emerged Guardiola rekindled his interest in Bonucci.

The Italy international has, however, decided to turn down City's interest and wants to stay at Juventus to support new head coach Andrea Pirlo.

Bonucci, 33, started all but two league games for Juventus last season in what proved a thoroughly disappointing season for the Old Lady.

Despite claiming another Serie A title, Juventus crashed out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage and were defeated in the Coppa Italia final.

Maurizio Sarri was sacked as a result and ex-midfielder Pirlo was surprisingly given the first-team job having only just been made a coach of one of Juventus' underage teams.

Only two outfielders completed more accurate long balls than Bonucci in Serie A last season (193).
