Tottenham lay down Eriksen transfer demands to Real Madrid
Tottenham will allow Christian Eriksen to join Real Madrid if they get Marco Asensio in return, claims The Sun.
Madrid want to complete their blockbuster summer spending spree with a midfield addition and want to sign one of Eriksen or Manchester United ace Paul Pogba.
A deal for Eriksen is relatively straightforward on paper as the Denmark international has one year left to run on his current Tottenham deal and can leave the club for nothing next summer.
However, negotiating with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is an almost impossible talk, while United have reportedly made it clear it will take an offer in excess of £150m to tempt them into selling Pogba.
Tottenham know they face a losing battle to convince Eriksen to sign a new long-term deal but are still holding out for £80m for his services from foreign clubs.
Madrid have no intention of paying that much given Eriksen’s circumstances and it has been reported Zinedine Zidane’s side plan to use out of favour midfielder Dani Ceballos as a makeweight.
However, it has emerged that while Tottenham will consider a swap deal for Eriksen, the Madrid player they actually want is Asensio.
The Spain international was considered one of the hottest prospects in Europe a few years ago but his career stagnated at Madrid last season.
Even Zinedine Zidane’s return to the club in March failed to get the best from Asensio and he faces the prospect of even less playing time next season following Eden Hazard’s arrival.
Asensio only managed one goal in 30 league appearances last season, five fewer than the season before.
