Borussia Dortmund confirm process for Sancho replacement
Manchester United have been given a boost in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho following confirmation from Borussia Dortmund they are narrowing down their search for his replacement.
Privately Dortmund know Sancho has likely played his final game for the club amid intense media speculation linking the former Manchester City youngster with a return to the Premier League.
Sancho has completed three seasons in Germany and developed into one of Europe's best players and is now a top transfer target for Manchester United.
While Dortmund have previously made it clear they are relaxed about Sancho's future and planning for him in the squad next season, they have now made their first public indication he will not be at the club next season.
"If Jadon left, we would do something again in the offensive area," Dortmund's sporting director, Michael Zorc, told German publication Kicker, via The Daily Mirror. "There are certainly one or two players we are targeting."
Dortmund are holding out for €100m for Sancho this summer but United are hoping to prise the England international away for much less than following the coronavirus pandemic and its expected impact on transfer fees.
Sancho was in and out of the Dortmund first-team during their last few games but finished the 2019/20 with outstanding figures of 17 goals and 16 assists in 32 league appearances.
Not only that, but Sancho has scored and assisted in more games (9) than any other player in Europe's top five leagues this season.
