Batshuayi set for early Chelsea return

Valencia sporting director Mateu Alemany has confirmed the club are trying to cut short Michy Batshuayi’s loan stint by six months, via Sky Sports.

The Belgium international joined Valencia on an initial season-long loan deal last summer but has failed to make any serious impression in Spain.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is on the market for a new striker but Batshuayi is not expected to stick around at the club for long this month.

Batshuayi is instead set for another loan move when he returns, though that could see the 25-year-old remain in England.

Crystal Palace wanted to sign Batshuayi before he went to Valencia and Roy Hodgson’s side are desperately scrambling for a new striker this month.

The Eagles pulled out of a loan deal for Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke amid fitness concerns before the England international signed for Bournemouth on a permanent transfer.

Hodgson’s side are reportedly mulling a move to sign Tammy Abraham from Chelsea but the 21-year-old has already turned down a loan offer from Wolves this month to stay at Aston Villa.

Batshuayi made 15 league appearances for Valencia during the first half of the season, though only started four times in that spell. He managed one goal from 17 shots in that time.

Of players to have made at least 15 league appearances in La Liga this term, Batshuayi has the lowest WhoScored rating (6.23).
