Manchester City keen on Leicester duo

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has earmarked Leicester duo Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu as potential transfer targets ahead of the January transfer window, claims Sky Sports.

Guardiola wants to use the January transfer window to sign a new centre-back after failing to replace former captain Vincent Kompany last summer.

City lost star centre-back Aymeric Laporte to knee surgery in September and the 25-year-old is not due back to full fitness until February.

John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have also both struggled to stay fully fit this season and Guardiola has even been forced to play defensive midfielders Fernandinho and Rodri at the back.

City are already nine points off Liverpool in the Premier League after losing 3-1 to Jurgen Klopp's side before the international break.

Guardiola has identified Leicester pair Evans and Soyuncu as potential targets for the new year, as both played instrumental roles in the Foxes flying start to the season.

City were heavily linked with a move for Evans in 2018 before Leicester snapped up the former Manchester United defender for just £3.5m later that summer.

Evans has proved astute business by the Foxes, while Soyuncu has done a wonderful job filling the large void left by Harry Maguire, who joined United for a world record fee for a defender in the summer.

In fact, Soyuncu's performances have ensured Leicester have barely noticed Maguire's absence, highlighted by the fact Leicester have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season (eight goals conceded)

Moreover, Soyuncu (546) and Evans (481) rank second and third, respectively, for most passes completed in their own half of the pitch in the Premier League this season, which will appeal to Guardiola.
