Giroud's move to Tottenham is off

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has announced Olivier Giroud will stay at the club and not join Tottenham before Friday's deadline, reports The Daily Mail

Giroud has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea all month with the likes of Lazio, Inter and Tottenham pursuing his signature.

Chelsea were willing to grant Giroud his wish but his departure hinged entirely on whether they could sign a replacement.

However, Chelsea have failed with moves for the likes of Lyon ace Moussa Dembele and Napoli's Dries Mertens and accept they have run out of time to sign a new striker.

Lampard confirmed that at his pre-match press conference for Saturday's match with Leicester and revealed Giroud will not leave.

It spells bad news for Tottenham, who have exhausted all options in their bid to sign a replacement for Harry Kane this month.

Kane is ruled out for the foreseeable future after undergoing hamstring surgery at the start of the month and Jose Mourinho has been vocal in his desire for a stand-in.

Giroud has been limited to just two Premier League starts and a further three substitute appearances and his aspirations of making the France squad for Euro 2020 are now in tatters.
